Mount Pleasant Health Screen Programme

News > Clinic Programmes 25th October 2019

Health screening is not just for seniors – it is for dogs and cats of all life stages.

HEALTH SCREENING CAN DETECT DISEASES AT AN EARLY STAGE

Many animals do not display pain or signs of diseases that may have developed. Early detection through health screenings, pain control and treatment can prolong the quality of our pets' life. Health screening, even when your pet is young and healthy, provides useful “baseline” values for comparison with future test results.

SOME SIGNS THAT YOUR DOG OR CAT MAY BE ILL:

  • Bad breath or drooling
  • Excessive drinking or urination
  • Excessive panting or laboured breathing
  • Frequent diarrhoea or vomiting
  • Unexplained weight loss or weight gain
  • Change in attitude or activity level
  • Strange lumps or bumps

OUR ANNUAL HEALTH SCREEN INCLUDES:

  • Physical Examination
  • Complete Blood Count
  • Blood Chemistry Panel
  • SDMA Test
  • Urinalysis
  • Chest X-rays (for dogs)
  • Thyroid Profile (for cats)

SENIOR PETS SHOULD SEE THEIR VETS EVERY 6 MONTHS

Our dogs and cats age much faster than we do and are usually considered seniors when they are 7 years old. As our pets enter their golden years, twice yearly health screenings are recommended to detect age-related diseases at an early stage.
